In the heart of Nelson/Tasman, where the sun kisses the earth and community spirit thrives, there's a group of folks who know how to move their feet for a good cause. Led by the dynamic duo of Sue Wilson and Danuta Newport, the Sioux Line Dance NZ has been tapping their way into the hearts of locals for nearly three decades. But this time, they weren't just dancing for the love of rhythm; they were dancing with a purpose—to support their beloved Nelson Tasman Hospice.

With the grace of seasoned dancers and the enthusiasm of a group on a mission, Sue and Danuta rallied their troupe for a special event: "Hands Up for Hospice - Linedance Event." It was a celebration of life, love, and the power of community coming together for a cause close to their hearts.

As Sue Wilson (Motukea) put it, they didn't just dance; they crafted a whole routine inspired by the spirit of giving. "Hands Up for Hospice," set to the catchy beats of Ottawan's "Hands Up," became the anthem of their fundraising efforts. Picture a line of dancers with hands raised high, not just in joyous celebration of movement, but in solidarity with those in need of care and comfort.

The Sioux Line Dancers aren't just about fancy footwork; they're about making a difference. With every step they took, they knew they were contributing to something greater than themselves. For almost 30 years, they've been weaving connections in the community, bringing people together through the universal language of dance.

But their support doesn't stop at the dance floor. Sue and Danuta recognize the vital role of Nelson Tasman Hospice in their community. They understand that it takes more than fancy footwork to make a hospice thrive—it takes dedication, support, and a whole lot of heart.

And heart is something the Sioux Line Dancers have in abundance. With their latest fundraising event, they showed that dance isn't just about movement; it's about making meaningful connections and giving back to those who need it most.

Through "Hands Up for Hospice," championed by sponsor NBS in 2024, they raised not only funds but also awareness for Nelson Tasman Hospice. This bi-annual campaign isn't just about collecting donations; it's about celebrating the lives of loved ones and ensuring that hospice care remains accessible to all who need it.

So, next time you see a group of dancers tapping away with smiles on their faces, remember that they're not just dancing for the joy of it—they're dancing for a cause. And thanks to the Sioux Line Dancers, Nelson Tasman Hospice has some extra support to keep doing the incredible work they do, providing comfort and care to those who need it most.
